Down to Business :: I Remember You Guys!
Oh, right, I have a blog! Scribblings of Seth! I mean, a Scholar. I haven’t been active on here for a while, and I figure that means it’s time for some inspiration. Sound good?
“The advice I like to give young artists, or really anybody who’ll listen to me, is not to wait around for inspiration. Inspiration is for amateurs; the rest of us just show up and get to work.” -Chuck Close
Let me just say, I’m ready to believe this guy just by looking at his picture. He looks like he lives in a Library. :D But the words ring true, as well. I find that I have been doing just what he has advised against. Waiting for inspiration. But what he’s saying here is that, basically, we shouldn’t be waiting for lightning to strike: we should be putting up a kite. How true! Often when my figurative stream runs dry, I just sit down and wait for rain. Stop writing for awhile and wait to be inspired. But that isn’t what writing is about! Writing is about digging into your story and finding the inspiration. And through that, you can inspire others.
(Thank you DAD for the quote!)
